Photographic Atlas Of Entomology
And
Guide To Insect Identification
This
book was created especially with
entomology students in mind. Dr. James L. Castner, entomologist
and professional photographer, has combined his teaching experience in
entomology laboratories with his photographic skills to create the
Photographic Atlas Of Entomology And Guide To Insect
Identification. This was designed specifically for college
students of General Entomology and Insect Taxonomy classes. It is
the first thorough, photo-oriented entomological guide of its kind.
Over 600 color photos have been used
to illustrate the structural characters and anatomical features of the
major insect families and arthropod groups discussed in entomology
courses. In addition to photographic coverage of approximately
190 arthropod taxa (including 30 insect and 8 arachnid orders),
explanations and illustrations of external anatomy and insect
development are also provided. Dichotomous keys to the family
level are included for the major orders, as well as a glossary of
specialized terms.
Entomology professors and lab
instructors will appreciate that this guide helps to provide a degree
of consistency in the coverage and information available from one lab
section to the next. Students will appreciate that the main
characters used in identification are already listed for them, allowing
more time to be spent in examining actual specimens. This work
permits students to take an insect reference collection home with them.
